Rep. Barton on Fracking Ruling

Statement

Date: June 22, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) released the following statement on the U.S. District Court Judge Skavdahl's ruling blocking the Department of Interior's proposed attempt to regulate hydraulic fracturing.

"U.S. District Judge Scott Skavdahl states, "The Court finds the intent of Congress is clear, so that is the end of the matter." I could not agree more. A decade ago, I chaired the conference committee of our last major energy bill and explicitly gave the authority to regulate hydraulic fracturing to the states.

At the time we did not know of the energy revolution America was about to experience, and we certainly did not know of the crushing regulation to come under the Obama Administration. Judge Skavdahl ruled today based on law and the constitution, not the political agenda of the president. For that I applaud him."
